Training Maps

Here are some maps for training walks starting at Twinbrook Shopping Center. All the Twinbrook routes were put together by Nan over the years so we all owe her a big thank you for saving them.

3 miles

4 miles

5 miles without a rest stop
5 miles with a rest stop

Once you get to any of these maps you can see the all the other routes from the BurkeBarnstormers public profile link. I am adding new routes as I have time and if anyone wants to add their own email me- marthaha@iwon.com -and I will hook you up to the account.

Train safely and remember to stretch.

Awesome weekend

I'm sorry I missed seeing most of you at closing. If you left early you missed a fabulous ceremony. They had the survivors make a very moving entrance across the stage after the rest of us were in place. I of course had used up all my film so I don't have any pictures of that but Sandy had some friends show up so we may get good pictures from them.

Here are the few pictures I took including some from the training walks.

Is anyone else going to the Race for the Cure? We should arrange to meet somewhere.

I'm going to miss all of you but I am glad to get my weekends back.

Larry's helpful hints

A first time walker was asking me about packing and I told her I would post this. Larry actually wrote a pdf book filled with tips for everything you may encounter. I highly recommend it for new walkers.

Amazingly I feel absolutely ready this year so I have to say thank you to all my teammates who have kept me going with my training. See you all on Saturday!

Walking and wine!

We walked 20 miles today and mostly finished up ahead of the rain. Whew! Many of us are looking ahead to next weekend already, which will be our last full weekend of training before the walk! Woo-hoo!

I'm also writing this post to mention an upcoming fundraiser: A wine and cheese tasting/silent auction! It's being put on by two of our team members, and extra funds raised will go to people still needing $.

Here are the details:
Saturday, April 21, 7:30 p.m.
Pam's house in Springfield, VA

$10 suggested donation (but there are door prizes!)

We'll have a variety of wines and cheeses, plus a boatload of cool items available for bid at the silent auction. Some of them include:
  • Washington Sports Club pass
  • Nationals tickets
  • Solar Planet tanning certificates
  • Waterford crystal ice bucket and glasses
  • homemade items (totebags, earrings, a very cute baby hat)
  • a Wine Lovers Gift Pack and gift certificate from Melting Pot
  • restaurant gift certificates (Zola, Tabard Inn, Flemmings wine bar, Metro 29 Diner)
  • ESPN Zone game cards
  • gift baskets from Yankee Candle and Bath & Body Works
If you're interested in joining us, THANK YOU! And any nice, fun people you'd like to bring are welcome, too. (Just note how many people will be coming on the e-mail invitation so we have enough food and wine on hand!)

To get the evite with the full address and other details, please e-mail us (the addresses that follow are spelled out oddly to prevent spammers from finding them!). Please contact Sara (saraclarke at hotmail dot com) or Pam (pamelajohnston at yahoo dot com) ASAP.

Thanks in advance :)
